The Grass is Always Greener on The Other Side

隣の芝は青い。
韓国は日本と競争したがる。なぜだろう？
NYで韓国人の友人ができた、彼らはいいやつらで今でも交流がある。
しかし、そんな彼らでも日本と韓国の領土・戦争・歴史になると、
敵意を示す。

ある日、韓国の女の子の家で彼女の友達と集まることになった。
日本人１人に韓国人8人である。
飲んで、しゃべって、カードゲームしていたら、
竹島の話題が韓国のケーブルテレビで流れた。
その時一人の女の子がこう切り出した。

「レオ、このことどう思う？」

「んー、その島が日本のものだろうと韓国のものだろうと、
俺の生活は変わらないから、あんまりこれについては話したくないな～。」
出来る限り当たり障りなく答えた。

彼女はこう続けた。
「そう答えるということは・・・」

「島は日本のものかな。お互いの教育が違うよ。
だから、これについては話さないほうがいい。たぶん終わらなくなるよ。」

一人の男が小声で、「くそやろ～」と言った。

僕は落ち着こうとしながら、
「おい、それはないだろ。意味のない挑発はしないどこうぜ。」

非生産的な会話が数分続き、
僕の友達の女の子が僕の弁護と助け舟を出してくれた。
「ねえ、レオはだけがここで日本人でしょ。不公平じゃない？やめようよ。」

僕は言葉で8人の韓国人にリンチを受けたが、
日本人代表として屈さなかった。

僕は普段こういった話はしない。理由は終わりがないから。
彼らは彼らの歴史を学び、僕らは僕らの歴史を学んだ。
そして人々を操るために、歴史は作られることだってある。

僕らは隣国でご近所同士なんだから、仲良くして外敵や内なる敵と戦うべきである。
日本は韓国にとって脅威ではない。
僕の好きな言葉は「敵は我なり」である。

ピース！！

The grass is always greener on the other side.

Korea always tries to compete with Japan. How come?
I made some Korean friends in NY. They are very nice and I'm still in touch with them. But even they are very hostile to Japan interms of certain topics such as territories, wars, histories related to Japan and Korea.

One day I got together with a Korean chick at her place and her friends came over there. It ended up 1 Japanese and 8 Koreans gethering. We were drinking , chatting and playing cards, then one news broadcasted on the TV saying an dispute island between Korea and Japan. A girl brought up...

"Leo, what do you think about that?"

"Well, even if the island is ours or yours, my life won't change. I don't wanna talk about it." I tried to be as diplomatic as possible.

She continued "Which means...."

"It's ours! Our educations are different. We shouldn't talk about it. This is an endless discussion."

One guy whispered "F**k!!"

I tried to calm down and said "Don't say F**k, dude! It's meaningless to provoke each other."

The non-productive conversation kept going for minutes.

Then my Korean chick defended and save me "Guys, Leo is only Japanese here. It's unfair. Let's cut it off"

I was vabally tortured by 8 Koreans and I couldn't give up as a Japanese.

I don't usually talk about this kind of dispute because it's endless. They study their own history and Japanese study their history. Some histories can be created to manipulate people. It happens.

Neibours should get along to fight against threats from outside or even inside.
I don't think Japan is a threat for Korea.
My favorite saying is "He is his own worst enemy."
